Scott C. Larsen, President and Chief Executive Officer
Scott Larsen has had extensive experience in the acquisition and assimilation of oil and gas assets and companies and early stage development of oil and gas exploration companies. After completing his law degree at Rutgers University in 1979, Scott worked for US Department of Energy and Arco, served as general counsel to a small domestic oil company, was the oil and gas partner in a law firm and served as general counsel to an investment management company. After honing his skills, in 1994 Scott took advantage of a unique opportunity to join the management team at TransAtlantic Petroleum Ltd. During his tenure as President of TransAtlantic Petroleum Ltd. (a publicly listed oil and gas company), Scott was responsible for a number of successful critical strategic actions. His accomplishments include the opening of four overseas offices and establishment of acreage positions in Morocco, Romania, Turkey and the UK North Sea; the increase of the company’s market capitalization from $22 million in February 2008 to $970 million in June 2010; the sale of off offshore Nigeria producing property interest and the eventual divestiture of all US properties. Scott also had primary responsibility for negotiating acquisitions valued at approximately $234 million and securing an option/farm-in covering 1.6 million acres in Turkey with a major oil company. In a TransAtlantic acquisition that involved a company with operations in Bulgaria, Scott helped integrate operations and negotiated a concession agreement with the Bulgarian regulatory authorities. Scott was also instrumental in attracting an investor who has invested more than $200 million in TransAtlantic. Scott retired from TransAtlantic in early 2012. Not one to sit idle, Scott was on the look-out for another ripe opportunity and served as a consultant for a number of oil companies including Park Place.
Dr. David S. Campbell, Vice President of Exploration
Dr. David Campbell has over thirty years’ experience in the petroleum E&P business and has worked in a wide variety of petroleum basins, including the North Sea, Continental Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from St. Andrews University and a Ph.D. degree in geology from Glasgow University. After graduation in 1979, he joined Esso Expro UK as a seismic interpreter and later spent the majority of his professional career with ARCO, both in the UK and overseas. He was North Sea Chief Geophysicist for ARCO British Limited, Geophysical Research Manager for ARCO Exploration and Production Technology Company, and Middle East Exploration Manager for ARCO International Oil and Gas Company. David was awarded ARCO’s International Exploration Award in 1993 and 1994 for his contribution to discoveries in the North Sea and Middle East. Following his retirement from ARCO in 2000, David was an officer or director in a number of energy-related companies, including Balli Resources Limited, TransAtlantic North Sea Ltd. and VND Energy 2008 Limited.
Chas Michel – Chief Financial Officer
Charles “Chas” Michel, 61, serves as chief financial officer. He is a partner with SeatonHill Partners LLC, which provides fractional CFO services. A seasoned financial executive with over 30 years of experience, Mr. Michel previously was Chief Accounting Officer and Controller for Trinity Industries, Inc., a multi-industry company with international operations which provides products and services to the industrial, energy, transportation, and construction sectors. Before joining Trinity Industries, he served as CFO for two restaurant companies ranging in size from $10 million to $350 million in revenues. He began his career at KPMG Peat Marwick in Dallas, where he was an audit partner.
Francis M. (Fran) Munchinski – Secretary and Treasurer
Mr. Munchinski is an attorney who has been involved in the oil and gas business for more than 35 years and received his law degree from the University of Tulsa in 1985. He spent 20 years in private practice, primarily with the law firm of Jenkens & Gilchrist (1986-1998, 2001-2007) and then with Cox Smith (2007-2009), where he specialized in oil and gas law. He served as general counsel for Alliance Resources Plc from 1998 to 2001. From 2009 to 2012, he was senior counsel with Denbury Resources Inc. From November 2012 until joining Park Place as its Secretary in November 2013, he worked as an attorney in private practice.
Kubilay Yildirim – General Manager (Turkey)
Mr. Yildirum has over the past 20 years had hands on experience in drilling, production, seismic acquisition, and logistics for both onshore and offshore projects in Turkey. He has spent most of career with this company and its predecessor companies: Madison, Toreador and Tiway. He has also been involved in sales and divestitures of assets and has taken on significantly more managerial positions until being promoted to General Manager in 2009. Mr. Yildirim has a degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Middle East Technical University and an MBA from Bilgi University in Istanbul.
Ozge Karalli – Finance Director (Turkey)
Mrs. Karalli began her career in Deloitte as tax compliance auditor where she was also audit senior and supervisor between 1998 and 2004. She joined Toreador in 2004 as Accounting Manager and Financial Controller, before becoming the Finance Director of Tiway Oil in 2010. Mrs. Karalli has a Bachelor of Economics degree from Bilkent University and has been a Chartered Public Accountant in Turkey since 2002.
William J. (Bill) McFie – Consulting Engineer
With over 40 years of oilfield experience as a petroleum engineer, Mr. McFie has amassed a wealth of experience, both onshore and offshore, to the planning and engineering aspects of exploration. With a degree in B.Sc. degree in chemical engineering from Strethclyde University, Scotland, he began as a petroleum engineer with Amoco, spent a large portion of his career with Sun International, where he served as international operations manager with postings in Aberdeen, Gabon, London and Argentina. He subsequently served as country manager in Pakistan (for Premier), Namibia (for Ranger Oil) and Yemen (for Nimir Petroleum Services). He then established a U.S. based affiliate for a UK petroleum consulting firm, which endeavor included a 2 year engagement planning operations in Romania and Morocco (for TransAtlantic Petroleum). For the past 3 years, he served as operations manager for coal bed methane and conventional fields in the San Juan Basin and Texas (for Red Willow Production Company).
